Korean Major/Minor

The Korean major/minor equips students with linguistic proficiency in the Korean language and cultural literacy about Korea and its place in the world.
The Korean major requires 32 credits, and the minor requires 17 credits total.

By studying the Korean language along with Korea’s society, culture, economy, and history, students gain a profound understanding of Korea’s 5,000-year-old heritage and the rich cultural perspectives it has cultivated. This deepened worldview can inspire new ways of thinking and broaden one’s global perspective.

In addition, proficiency in Korean and cultural knowledge of Korea offers valuable advantages for careers in global industries, especially with leading companies such as Samsung, Kia, and Hyundai. It also opens pathways to becoming a North and South Korea regional specialist, an increasingly important role in today’s interconnected world.

Korea is home to world-class advancements in science and technology, with a highly skilled workforce and global influence in industries such as electronics, biotechnology, and medicine.
This growth has been driven by a national focus on research, innovation, and talent development. Studying Korean offers students the opportunity to explore this dynamic environment and understand how Korea has become a leading force on the global stage through creativity, resilience, and global engagement.
