Baba Yaga, the well-known character from many Russian fairy tales, made a visit to MSU on Halloween to teach students of Russian about Russian superstitions.
Baba Yaga, known for her house on chicken legs and the fact that she enjoys thwarting fairy tale heroes and eating children, nevertheless decided to help MSU students on this non-Russian holiday. She taught students of Russian some very important lessons in life, like how to keep their house spirit (domovoi) happy, that they should not sit at the corners of tables or they won’t get married for 7 years, the dangers of talking over a threshold, and how to spit on the devil that lives on their shoulder.
After her lessons were over, Baba Yaga was seen flying away in her reliable mortar and pestle.
