MSU’s Second Language Studies Program Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The Second Language Studies (SLS) program at Michigan State University is turning 20 years old and is marking this milestone with a weekend of social and academic events, Oct. 17-19, 2025, that will involve students and faculty as well as alumni of the program who are joining the celebration at MSU from all over the world.

2025 Faculty Award Winners Recognized for Outstanding Achievement

The College of Arts & Letters honored its Faculty Award Winners at the 2025 College of Arts & Letters Faculty and Staff Welcome Reception on Sept. 29 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center. These faculty members were recognized for their outstanding leadership, teaching, innovation, and community engagement, as well as the significant impact they have made in enhancing curriculum and student experiences.

Professor Jonathan Choti Elected President of the Kenya Scholars and Studies Association

Jonathan Choti, Associate Professor of African Languages and Cultures in the Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures at Michigan State University, was elected President of the Kenya Scholars and Studies Association (KESSA), a professional organization that draws members from around the world and that promotes scholarly, scientific, and research work being done in and on Kenya.

MSU Student Receives Boren Scholarship to Study in Kazakhstan 

Michigan State University undergraduate student Eleanor Pugh has earned a Boren Scholarship to study abroad in Kazakhstan. The Boren Awards program funds the intensive study of language and culture abroad for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students. Scholars have the option to either apply for a Regional Flagship Language Initiative or select/design their own study program.
